What to bring

  • • Warm layer and closed shoes for late-evening temperatures.
  • • Red-light flashlight if available (to protect night vision).
  • • Binoculars or a small scope if you have one; shared viewing is welcome.

First time attending?

Look for the Moonbeam sign near the north lot path. A volunteer host greets newcomers, introduces observing etiquette, and helps everyone find an easy first target.

Meetup Questions

A few practical answers before your first night out

If you're new, you're in good company. These quick notes cover what to expect so you can arrive feeling prepared and relaxed.

Do I need astronomy experience to join a meetup?

Not at all. Most sessions include a short orientation, and members are happy to explain what you're seeing in plain language.

Do I need my own telescope or binoculars?

No equipment is required. Club members usually bring shared scopes, and naked-eye observations are part of every meetup.

What happens if the weather changes?

We post updates before start time if clouds or rain affect visibility. Some nights shift to a shorter sky briefing and Q&A.

What should I bring to be comfortable?

Bring a warm layer, water, and a small red-light flashlight if you have one. A notebook and camp chair are helpful but optional.

How can I participate in the club community?

Join discussions, share observations, and ask questions at your own pace. Participation can be as simple as showing up regularly and learning together.
